Our last trip was in the Florida keys and started in fort Lauderdale where we spent our first night at Ocean-Surf-Hotel before heading for the campground of Big Pine Key around 40 min before arriving to key west. We spent quite a bit of time on good old school beach cruiser bikes pedaling around key west discovering the small street and the great beach. As recommended by our friends we had a taste of the yummy Key Lime Pie. We went diving with SouthpointDivers and got 2 reef dive and then 1 amazing dive at the USNS Vandenberg !! I went to Islamorada for a great day of kitesurfing and got the chance to rent and try a Naish and Liquid force 2012 latest model with Seven Sports.
After spending an amazing month with Hacky and Dani @kitebrazilhotel with 30 full days of wind and 28 of sun, lets say it was the best kite vacation ever!! After farewell and goodbye we hop on the bus to Fortaleza and flew back to Montreal after a transit in Sao Paulo and Detroit. Its been a quick week-end in montreal to have dinner and few drinks with friends before heading back to Kuujjuaq where the crispy cold air of minus 5 degree was quite a change...
Our Husky dog Sherpa got treat so much that she took a few pounds...
Catherine is working in Aupaluk this week and I will be goiing down for training to Montreal this friday!!
After spending around 6 days in Jericoacoara we were ready to go back @kitebrazilhotel in Prea on October 13 for more downwind riding in the wave. After a terrific 4 hours on the water on the 12 and a nice downwind, the plan was to get a buggy and downwind from Jeri to river mouth on the 14... After 20 minutes of riding my left foot got stuck in the surf board foot strap and twisted enough that I thought it was broken! The next day with X-ray we found out in Cruz that nothing was broken so probably torn ligament...
I have been relaxing ever since doiing a lot of reading and picture takinng...
In the mean time, Catherine has continue progressing in the wave and is riding wave like a pro now!!! We still have a few days before we head back to Fortaleza to catch our flight back home!!
We came into Jericoacoara on a Saturday night of a music and sport festival!! During noon while kiting we saw aroud 60 kitges doiing a downwind from Prea to Jericoacoara!! We pack our stuff and got a ride with Hacky and Danny's Dunebuggy to Dos Ipes our pousada for the week !! Today we started with a walk to the lighthouse and ended up with a very good shake when we came back!!!
Today Catherine and I were still sour from yesterday kite riding !! As we were getting ready for more riding I did not know yet my harness would die on me while in the middle of a wave. I got back to shore and Hacky drove me to the closest repair shop in town. For 5 Rais my harnees was like a new!! Catherine went riding for a while but since the wind has been around 40 to 50 km/h almost everyday we decide it would be easier to share Cath's 7 M and take turn riding to get a little break. On my second shot the kite twist in the middle and I had to rescue my self which has been quite easy since the wind and wave brought me back in no time to the shore. After I was finally able to do a great downwind all the way to Jeri 12 km down the beach!!Cath got much more comfortable riding wave also and we were both burn dead tire by the end of the day!!
This morning we went with Aki to the Dunes of Birmingan, more or less 10 km south of Prea on the beach with the Dune Boggey. After taking us to the very top of one the tallest dune around we got this amazing view of the surroundings! We went back down to the beach and pump Cath's 7 m cross-bow Cabrinha kite and we ended up taking turn riding since the waves and strong wind was quite exhausting. By mid afternoon we were both getting tired so I got the chance to do a 10 km downwind baxk to our place with the surfboard riding toe side and getting completly addicted to the feeling...
This morning after a yummy breakfast fill with fresh fruit we have been heading for the ocean for our first ride. After riding for a while with my Nobile kiteboard, Aki the owner of Kite Brazil Hotel lend be a 5 foot 4 surfboard to try out in the waves!! Its been such a great feeling!! The surfboard makes riding in the waves such a smoother ride and toe side are just so easy. I loved it so much that I ended up doiing a nice downwind and got pick up by Aki with his dune boggey.
We then spent the afternoon having lunch and recovering with a big Brahma on a small beach restaurant.
Catherine and I just got into Prea by late afternoon. After spending 6h on a quite comfortable bus from Fortaleza, we have hop on a small open air loacal bus for about 45 min to our place for the week : http://www.kite-prea.com/
The owner came to pick us up with his yellow dune-boggey and he strapped our golfbag full of kitegear on the roof before giving us a ride to the Kite brazil hotel.
This is a kitesurfer dream place!
Our first experience at the Montreal Marathon has been great! Along with few friends from Kuujjuaq we took part in the Half-Marathon. Catherine and Mireille ran together most of the 21km and we all met at Eve's places right after for an afternoon lunch. I think we all found it quite hard with the heat of the sun but a great first experience overall!! Now a 2 days until we fly to brazil for a month.
Just 5 days until the Montreal Marathon 2011. Catherine and I along with few friends all met in Kuujjuaq will be in the race sunday morning.
Then few days in montreal until we fly to brazil for 1 month of kiteboarding in brazil.
2 major stop one in Prea http://www.kite-prea.com/ and another in Jericoacoara
I was sent to Salluit on a back and forth plan to repair the computer from the Salluit Airport and the drizzle was too dense for the plane to leave this morning so I have been shooting a few video with my 7D.
